NRW Reduction for the Municipal Water Utility ASKI in Adana, Turkey, ASKI financed – 2007 – 2008

In September 2007, ASKI appointed Berlinwasser International for six months duration to provide NRW service.

Task

_ Establishment of pilot areas to demonstrate benefits from leak detection
_ Production of water balances for pilot areas and service area
_ Development of strategic plan to reduce REAL and APPARENT losses

ASKI is faced with issues that need the support of a qualified partner in order to develop sustainable solutions. These issues include:

_ Rapid growth in demand (currently serving for 1,3 m inhabitants with a water production rate of 500,000 m³/d and approx. 400.000 customer connections)
_ Need to improve metering and billing
_ An old distribution network regarding the house connections
_ Non-Revenue Water of 65 %

The scope of work for BWI’s consulting service is as following:

_ Desktop Study
_ Data collection and analysis
_ IWA Water balance calculation and findings
_ Establishment of pilot areas

Preparation of NRW strategic plan

_ Field Study
_ Planned 4 pilot areas, each with approx. 3,000 house connections and an average monthly billing of 30,000 m³
_ Set-up pilot area
_ Done step tests and leak detection/repair works
_ Final report with recommendations and ASKI action plan
