Background

In 1997 the municipality of Hodmezövasarhely in Hungary needed foreign experience and capital to provide water and wastewaters services in line with European union standards. Berlinwasser was at that time already active and developed mutually with the municipality a project constellation to run the whole water and wastewater services after construction of a new sewer net and reconstruction of the water network. A sewage treatment plant was already constructed but unable to operate because of the missing sewer collection and network

Contract

The main contracts of the engagement were the concession agreement, the operation contract and the management contract. The services of Berlinwasser should secure operation, maintenance and investment of the operation company, the supply of potable water and treatment of wastewater under European standards and provide management and organizational strengthening services under the management contract. The cooperation ended by selling the Berlinwasser shares due to dramatic political changes back to the municipality in 2006.
